Comes to Port Isabel

This well-traveled replica spent a week at South Point Marina in Port Isabel. It was, by the way, my first visit to South Point in some time. Even though the facility is just across the channel from us, we've not had occasion to go there since we sold the boat (which we used to house there) and dropped out of the Laguna Madre Yacht Club (whose clubhouse is there).
From
dockside. The ship would be more impressive I suspect with the sails set. I
probably won't be lucky enough to spot it when it goes by our deck on its way
through the jetties into the Gulf of Mexico.
This sign sat at dockside. Enlarged its readable but barely.
Looking
forward from the under-deck area and looking over the ship's boat. For the
original voyages this was probably the only way ashore since docking facilities
were probably pretty rare. One of the hatches into the hold is in the
foreground. Only cargo and animals were in the hold, we were told. The crew
lived--ate and slept--on the open deck.
Peering
out aft over the rudder. I wonder how many men it took handle this huge tiller.
